Strategic Communications Firm Rational 360 Hires Roll Call Reporter Matthew Murray

Murray Brings Years of Capitol Hill Reporting Experience to Rapidly Growing Washington, DC Public Relations / Public Affairs Firm

Rational 360 has hired political reporter Matthew Murray. Murray arrives at Rational 360 from Roll Call, where for more than four years he wrote about Congressional politics and the Washington, D.C., government affairs community.

“Journalism’s loss is Rational 360’s gain. Matt Murray is a smart thinker with a fundamental understanding of how policy fights are won and lost in Washington,” said Rational 360 Partner Patrick Dorton. “As our firm continues to experience strong growth, Matt is going to play a key role in helping Rational 360 clients develop and execute the best Washington strategies.”

“During three campaign cycles at Roll Call, I’ve had the tremendous opportunity of working with many of the brightest minds in politics and journalism,” said Murray. “At a time when the news business is changing constantly, I look forward to my new role in helping Rational 360’s clients understand the complex modern media landscape in Washington, D.C.”

While with Roll Call, Murray covered Senate, House and presidential races, and was part of the newspaper’s reporting team for the 2008 Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee conventions. He has appeared regularly on national broadcasting outlets, including MSNBC, C-SPAN and XM Radio.

Murray also contributed to Roll Call’s lobbying coverage, writing extensively about K Street’s role in the recent overhaul of the nation's health care and financial rules, as well as Democratic and Republican takeovers in Congress. In 2010 he was a co-recipient of the Washington Government Relations Group’s Lucile Harris Bluford Spotlight Award.

Prior to Roll Call, Murray worked at Congressional Quarterly, USA Today and The Chronicle of Philanthropy. He holds a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and is a graduate of the University of Missouri. Starting with his great grandfather, a Dayton Daily News executive, his family has worked in media for much of the past century.
